You Need Not Walk Alone
During these challenging times, more and more people are reaching out to counselors for support and guidance. If you are looking for somewhere that is a safe place to explore the issues you are ready to explore, I am glad that you found our website. Life's journey is unique for each of us. Sometimes the path seems very dark and the path (and sometimes the destination) is uncertain. It can be immensely helpful to have someone to walk with you awhile on your path- to provide presence, reflection, encouragement and suggestions. Sometimes another set of eyes can share a unique perspective.
Walk & Talk Therapy is unique in that it takes place at local parks and incorporates physical movement, the healing power of being out in nature and talking with a licensed counselor as we walk. We have so many beautiful outdoor spaces in the Birmingham area that allow us to walk and talk. Movement propels us forward- both literally and figuratively and allows us to explore potential changes. Small life changes can have tremendous impacts. Walk & Talk Therapy also provides a more relaxed approach to therapy that reduces anxiety and allows clients to be real.
There are a few benefits of outdoor sessions that differ from office sessions. For many, the physical movement makes a difference. Even the light exercise of walking has a physical and psychological effect that can cause us to find new perspectives that we hadn’t been able to see previously. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, bereavement/ grief & loss, trauma, or life transitions, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) can provide a source of hope, encouragement and guidance during very difficult times in clients' lives.
HOW DOES THIS WORK?
If you are thinking about trying Walk & Talk Therapy, you can complete an Initial Consultation Request Form. I will then reach out to you to schedule our initial consultation.
During the initial meeting we discuss counseling, the issues you may be wanting to explore, what has been helpful for you in the past and what might be helpful in our times together. This is generally a 30-minute session to see if we feel scheduling a first appointment would be helpful. There is not a charge for the initial consultation.
Following the initial consultation, I will share a scheduling link and Informed Consent documentation. If you would like to schedule a session, you can select a time slot and location that works best for you. I will send a reminder text the day before your session.
Our sessions typically are scheduled for 45 minutes. Early evening and weekend appointments are available. At this time, I am currently seeing Self-Pay Clients and those with benefits provided by Blue Cross/ Blue Shield of Alabama and Behavioral Health Systems. The session rate for Self-Pay Clients is $125. Payment is via secure credit card processing (HSA eligible). Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance to avoid a $50 fee.
And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.
