About ME

Brian S. Rodgers, LPC-SC, NCC

I am a proud alum of the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Counselor Education program (MA 12/2000) where I served as the President of the Zeta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota. I have been an LPC since 2005 and a Supervising Counselor since 2011. I am also a National Board Certified Counselor (2006-Present).

I am the owner of The JOURNEY Counseling Services and Rodgers Professional Services LLC, which provides counseling and clinical supervision services. Some of the areas that I work with are anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, and life transitions.

I currently also work in the school counseling arena, serving as a District Interventionist for Hoover City Schools. I am a certified School Counselor. Previously I served as the Dean of Counseling & Residential Life for Indian Springs School. Prior to that, I served nine years as a counselor and Associate Director of The Amelia Center at Children's of Alabama. I also have served as Director of the Employee Assistance Program for Behavioral Health Systems- providing client companies from throughout the country  with wellbeing-focused programs and services.

I am a Crisis Response Provider with R3Continuum (since 2000). I have assisted with responses to bank robberies, employee deaths, downsizing events, and national crises including Hurricane Katrina and the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida

I believe that the counseling process should be one that helps clients gain perspective and feel heard. I use a variety of techniques to normalize reactions, develop coping strategies and gain a sense of control when life's journey seems unsure.

In a vehicle the windshield is much larger that the rear-view mirror- I believe that holds true for life, as well. While our past may shape us, where we are going is more important. We have much more control over our present and the future.

I feel that Walk & Talk Therapy allows us to connect in a less formal way than a clinic setting. It also removes many barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help.
