Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What happens during a Walk & Talk Therapy session?

The conversations held during walk & talk sessions may parallel those in an office setting. While we could engage in similar discussions as we would in an office, the added advantages of movement and the outdoors are notable. Nonetheless, Walk & Talk Therapy provides unique possibilities not feasible in an office environment that warrant exploration. This may involve incorporating metaphors related to walking and nature, enhancing the therapeutic process during sessions.

Additionally, the outdoor setting allows for the utilization of mindfulness techniques, offering a distinct experience compared to an office setting. These techniques can deepen your connection to both the natural environment and your physical self. Once learned, these practices can be applied discreetly anywhere, providing a calming effect, fostering a sense of groundedness, and improving our ability to be present in everyday life.

Where do Walk & Talk Therapy Sessions take place?

We are blessed to have many locations in our area that would be excellent for Walk & Talk Therapy. Sessions can be held at Veterans Park (Hoover, AL), Oak Mountain State Park (park entry fee required), Oak Mountain State Park (admission fee required) and Heardmont Park (North Shelby County). The location will be determined in advance.  The paths are flat and well-maintained. This makes for a relaxing walk that is not at all strenuous but still provides enough physical movement to be beneficial.  The path is also quite wide, giving us lots of space to have a private conversation.  Some of the locations have wonderful water features, which enhance the natural beauty, and provide some background noise to increase privacy as we talk.  There are also several places to stop and sit if we would like to pause the movement and experience some stillness.
